Megan Leonard is a producer and festival programmer based in Seattle, WA.
Her short film Mixtape Marauders (dir. Peter Edlund, 2017) premiered at the Academy-qualifying Aspen ShortsFest in April 2017 and continued to screen at festivals across the US including Palm Springs, Portland (Audience Award), Bend (Special Jury Award), Cinequest and Seattle, and traveled internationally to Raindance, Clermont-Ferrand and the TIFF Shorts Circuit. It received a Vimeo Staff Pick Premiere for its online release in April 2018, won Short of the Week’s 2019 Best Comedy of the Year Award, and was nominated for Vimeo’s 2018 Best Comedy of the Year. Her two previous collaborations with director Peter Edlund, Chase the Clouds (2016) and The New West (2014), also received Vimeo Staff Picks.
In 2018 Megan co-produced and assistant directed Factory 25’s feature production, You Mean Everything to Me (dir. Bryan Wizemann, post-production). Megan has also produced numerous other short films including I See Through You (dir. Lael Rogers, 2018) which began its festival run at the Seattle Film Festival and has continued on to Bend, Cucalorus and Cinequest. She has two others shorts that have yet to premiere; The Procedure Part 2 (dir. Calvin Lee Reeder, 2019), the follow-up to Calvin Lee Reeder’s Sundance award-winning short film The Procedure, and Rock (dir. Jacob Rosen, 2019). She has also produced music videos for Mudhoney, Chastity Belt, Noah Gundersen and more, as well as ads for companies including Nordstrom, Universal Audio and Microsoft.
In addition to producing, Megan has served on the Seattle International Film Festival programming team for the last ten years where she heads the New American Cinema and SIFF ShortsFest teams. Additionally she programs at DOC NYC, Indie Memphis and Cucalorus, has served as a mentor at SXSW and Film Independent Forum, and on juries at Fantastic Fest, Twist and Sound Unseen.
